Diamond pads are very good. I don’t like foam backer pads. They make your grinder and arms vibrate like crazy, take a lot of time to set up, and don’t last very long.

We made three concrete countertops, each about 45 square feet, with special aggregate we put in them. We used a diamond grinding wheel from Ridgid to get the aggregate out. Then we used these pads to start. This is how it worked: We started with a 50 grit pad to get rid of the grinding swirls. Then we moved on and used a 400 grit pad to smooth out the scratches.

There was a problem with how the hook and loop pad was attached to the base of the grinder. Even when there was no pad on it, the grinder still vibrated a lot. In order to fix this, I ran the grinder and held a piece of paper against the mounting pad to sand the edges until they were even.

Dewald’s 4.5-inch grinder started vibrating again after I put the diamond pad in place on the hook and loop pad. That’s why I stop it. I see that the pad isn’t right in the middle. Take the pad off and put it back together. When I do that, I have to do it again every five minutes, too. After a few hours of vibration, you start to get tired and hurt. In the middle of 400 grit, things worked out for themselves. The foam backer and diamond pad flew off the plastic backer and hit the wall of the garage. Glad it didn’t hit me the other way. When you buy a good rubber mounting pad at Home Depot, you don’t have to move it every five minutes or shake it.

They are great. There was another kit on Amazon with a rubber backing pad instead of cheap foam that was glued to a plastic backer. I would have bought that one instead.
