It is a “get you by” unit that is reasonably priced. With such high torque, when you depress the foot pedal, the motor twists so severely that it pulls the shaft out of your hand. I had to mount mine on a board that had come down from the ceiling and secure it with metal strapping to keep it in place. The volume is higher than I would like compared to the other models I’ve owned. The foot pedal is a little spongy at first, and it will take some time to get used to. When the hand piece is used for an extended period of time, it can become hot. Remember to thoroughly grease the shaft when you receive it.
The flexible shaft is coved with bendable metal rather than rubber, which has its advantages. That part is absolutely incredible. As a goldsmith since 1979, I’ve developed arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. This shaft alleviates a great deal of pressure from my wrist and finger joints. In addition, the hand piece is extremely comfortable.
Really, for the money, you can’t go wrong, but it’s unclear how long the deal will be available. Even my more expensive units have failed within a little more than a year of purchase. Would I order it again? Definitely. Perhaps not, but for the price, it is a worthwhile investment to have a second or third backup unit on hand at all times.
