Using the CRAFTSMAN V20 20V max* Random orbit sander (the tool alone) with 12, 000 opm’s is great for surface preparation and removing paint or varnish. This unit has a low profile. It also comes with a detachable dust bag and can be used with most 11/4 in. vacuum hoses. It also has a switch that isn’t going to get dirty.
In this case, there is no battery life left. I also have a hammer drill and an angle grinder, both of which work well. My 2ah battery and 4ah battery already had enough power for a new sander, so why not. To sand, I had to sit by the charger and change batteries all the time. I had an 18×30 piece to sand from 220 to 2000 volts. The 4ah lasted about 10 minutes, and the 2ah, well, it didn’t last nearly as long, but it was still fun.
Corded sander: I’m going back and I’ll buy one. This won’t work for a real job.
Oh, and with the 4ah battery, it’s a lot of weight as well.
