This splitter has held up well, and it’s still going strong. I’ve hit the top ring many times and nothing has broken. I haven’t even touched the blade, and it splits well. I would buy this again. As for the bigger Kindle Cracker, I would have chosen that one if it wasn’t more than double the price and I could get it shipped to Alaska for a reasonable price. A Northern Tools item that used to be available on Amazon is now no longer available. It costs half as much as it did on Amazon. We can’t ship Northern Tool to Alaska because the cost of shipping is still too high for us. You can get this version for a good price on Amazon if you look at the whole picture.
The unit looks like it was made well, but it isn’t clear how long it will last. Sharp: The blade was easy to use. It’s a little small, and if you don’t pick the right wood for it, it can get stuck while you’re cutting. Even if the piece of wood is small enough to fit through, it will get stuck as the wedge spreads the split wood. It will not fall through or be removed. Not a big deal after you learn how to look at your kindling options. Instead of the smaller Kindling Cracker, I would have bought the bigger one, but it would have cost me almost $200 (incl. shipping). There are knots when you split any kind of wood. There aren’t any knots in the wood I buy. If I could, I would buy this again.
