So, I recently purchased this planer and have put approximately 4 hours’ worth of wood through it.
Walnut and maple are the most common woods, with some paduk, zebrawood, and purpleheart thrown in for good measure.
When you first see it, it appears to be lacking in the ability to push very quickly. That, combined with the fact that the blades are so far apart, makes me doubt whether a more powerful motor would make a difference.
4 sided blades were mentioned in a previous review. I believe they are only two-sided, which is a significant problem. The four sides of helix blades are the primary reason for their purchase. I’ll be purchasing some replacement four-sided ones in the hopes that they’ll work.
With this unit, you will be planning 5-8″ boards at a snail’s pace with 1/32″ pass intervals. That is the default setting for my computer. If you follow these instructions, everything will be fine for you.
