This is probably the best a mainstream orbital can get in terms of performance. I decided on a multi-speed, but I haven’t put it through its paces at anything other than maximum speed. This one appears to be well-constructed, and I’ve been putting it to good use. In comparison to most competitors, it has a higher amp rating.
Because it does not have a soft grip, it can become a little tiring to use after a short period of time. When sanding a horizontal surface, the dust collector performs admirably; however, when I use it vertically, dust will blow out unless the collector is oriented up..which makes it difficult to use. It also begins to lose dust long before the bin is completely full, requiring me to empty it more frequently than I anticipated.
The base pad should be supported when tearing off sandpaper discs, according to my previous (Harbor Freight) orbital, as I suspect it will eventually detach if not. If it does, I don’t see a way to get it replaced unless it breaks completely.
I’m pleased with my purchase, and I believe it represents a better value than HF’s mid-priced alternatives..
