More info about why does my chainsaw run backwards

Took me a couple seconds to realize it was running backwards and shut it off but it ran good with no strange noises. I’ve heard of a saw running backwards, I don’t remember what would cause it to do it but that particular saw would do it fairly often. Also I’ve heard about people stalling a Detroit 2 stroke diesel powered truck on a hill and have it start running backwards.

Yes, 2-stroke engines will run backwards…not very well, but they will run backwards. Bumped the starter button one day, popped it into first gear, let out on the clutch and almost went over the handlebars as it lunged backwards throwing rocks between my feet!!! Also had a Detroit Diesel run backwards once. All I can say is if you do happen to get a saw to run backwards……DON’T pull the starter rope with it running!!

why does my chainsaw run backwards Related Question:

What would make a chainsaw run backwards?

If you lugged the engine to a near stall and then released the load, they would start backwards.

Does a chainsaw run clockwise?

These blades have two edges, one of which is sharp, and the other one is dull. A chainsaw blade always rotates from a clockwise direction. The direction of the chainsaw blade is always the same regardless of the type or model of chainsaw. So the sharp edges of the blade should always face the clockwise direction.

Which way does a chainsaw engine turn?

Chainsaw chains rotate in a clockwise direction, so the cutting edges should be facing away from the engine and to the right, on the top of the chain.

Can 2 strokes run backwards?

Posted by McNally on November 29, 2021. Due to the control of the event timing (intake, exhaust, etc.) by the piston, not by the crank, a two-stroke can run backwards. It has happened to me before.

Why is my chainsaw blade smoking?

This most commonly is a result of a dull chain and exerting to much pressure on the bar and chain trying to make the chain saw cut. This could also be either a lack of bar and chain oil ( tank empty, restricted oiler hole ) or an inferior type of oil that is being slung off the chain and not lubricating.

How do I know which way my chainsaw chain is?

Getting the chainsaw chain direction right is very straightforward. When viewing the chain at the top of the bar, the cutter must be facing towards the tip of the chainsaw bar. When looking at the chain on the bottom of the bar, the cutter must be facing the powerhead.

Can 4 stroke engine run backwards?

Usually a four stroke that starts in reverse is pulling it’s fuel and air from the muffler side. Residual fuel from the filling and venting winds up in the muffler. The engine kicks backwards and takes off. You can rotate the housing on a 2C 90 degs left.

What happens if you put a 2-stroke piston in backwards?

On a 2-stroke, there are pins in the ring grooves that keep the rings from rotating.otherwise they would catch in the edge of a port and cause a lot of damage. Obviously you were lucky that the locating pins on the CR piston did not travel across any ports even when put in backwards.

Can a lawn mower engine run backwards?

So can your lawn mower engine run backwards? While the answer is yes, your engine running backwards won’t be helpful to you, and is likely to be the cause of internal damage to the flywheel key. If your engine has begun to run backwards, it’s likely you’ve mowed over a large immovable object such as a rock.

Why does my chainsaw blade go dull so fast?

Is the wood that you’re cutting with the chainsaw particularly dirty? Many chainsaw enthusiasts have noted that their blades dull faster when they’re cutting muddy wood. If the logs that you’re cutting up are muddy, then perhaps that is the sole reason why your blade is dulling too fast.

How long should a chainsaw blade stay sharp?

A chainsaw may only need to be sharpened once a year if it is rarely used, but a tool that is frequently used will need to be sharpened regularly to ensure that the blade doesn’t get too dull. On average, a chainsaw blade will retain its sharpness for about 3 hours of actively cutting through wood.

Why is my chainsaw burning the wood?

Your chainsaw burns wood because of poor lubrication Lubrication allows the mechanical parts to coordinate much better by avoiding a phenomenon of friction which risks causing traces of burns. This is one of the main reasons that your appliance gives off too much heat and that the wood burns.

Can you over tighten a chainsaw chain?

There is a tension screw located near the base of the bar on the chainsaw. To tighten the chain, turn it clockwise, and to loosen turn it counterclockwise. Don’t over-tighten the chain as this could cause it to break.

When should I replace chainsaw chain?

Once the wear markers have been met it’s essential to replace the chainsaw chain. Filing past the wear marker will greatly reduce the chain’s cutting performance, and increases the risk of the tooth breaking off. Ideally you should reach the tooth and depth gauge markers at roughly about the same time.
