For the first time, I’ve bought a tool from the Worx brand. I bought this one because I’ve been looking at the same tool from Milwaukee for their 12V line. Because the 20V system has more power and run time than the 12V Milwaukee equivalent, I thought it would be worth the trade-off. The 20V system costs at least $100 less than the Milwaukee set, which is worth a try. After I used this tool for the first time, it didn’t live up to some of my expectations. I thought it would be a lot more powerful than a 12V tool. That means the extra weight and size of this tool isn’t worth it, but you’re still getting a similar tool for much less money.
First, I thought it was a lot lighter duty than I thought it would be and not at all like the big brands like Milwaukee, Makita, Bosch, and Dewalt. It is not even close. Unlike most of the other battery systems, this one doesn’t have a way to show you how much charge is left. The guard is made of lightweight plastic, which I don’t think is the right material for a safety tool. This machine is also at least 1 pound heavier than the Milwaukee and is bigger in all of its important dimensions, so it is heavier than the Milwaukee. There are two things that make this flashlight stand out: the battery is square and protrudes from the handle. During straight cuts, this isn’t a problem. When you are cutting free form and making turns, the battery can get stuck around your arm, which isn’t a problem with the Milwaukee tool.
The first time I cut some plastic and metal sheeting with the tool, I saw that it was a good machine. You can even use the tool to cut through a 1/8′ washer and not get bogged down, so long as you let it do its job and take into account how slow the wheel spins.
This tool isn’t for everyone, but if you often cut metal or plastic sheet goods, this is a great tool. In the metal shop, my favorite tool is the pneumatic angle die grinder. I use it to cut out patterns on sheeting material and make holes. The angle grinder’s size and orientation make it easier to move and handle than a full-sized angle grinder, which is a lot bigger. I’ve been looking at this tool because I want to replace or add to the tool that I already have. They are heavier, but they don’t have the air hoses that are cumbersome and hard to use. Electric ones don’t have this problem. When you use this tool for a long time, the weight is also important because carrying a 5lb tool can make you tired.
This tool doesn’t have the same feel or features as the big brands, but it does look like it can do the job. The real test of a good tool is how long it lasts, which can’t be done quickly. A good thing to hope for is that this tool will last as long as other well-known brands.
