The chain on my new Stihl MS660 is 3/8.050. The 3/8.063 chain fits fine in the drive sprocket on the MS660, and the bar bolts right on, but I’m not sure if this is a wise idea as I don’t know if there is a difference between an.050 and.063 drive sprocket. “If your MS660 came with a Picco setup, you should not run regular 3/8” chains on the same sprocket.
For me, if I am not cutting or bucking 19″ trees all the time, I’m OK with a 16″ or 18″ bar or whatever I bought my saw with. Limbing with a 20″ or longer bar can be really tiring, and the longer the bar, the more attention you have to keep on your task. “As for using the same pitch/thickness for all my saws, unless you are making your own chains from bulk stock, I don’t think it matters. I really don’t have the same bar length for any of my saws and they are all different pitches. I have 12″, 14″ and 18″, 24″ and 36”.
