More info about how to start chainsaw after running out of gas

If the operator has repeatedly been trying to start the chainsaw through the recoil starter system, they may have accidentally flooded the engine with fuel. If you believe fuel has flooded the chainsaw engine, pull the starter cord several times while holding the throttle, dry and replace the spark plug, and then try starting the chainsaw again. Gasoline will start to deteriorate if left unused and sitting, so if the chainsaw hasn’t been started in a while, be sure to check that old fuel is not collecting inside the chainsaw.

I blew carb cleaner through the hose and saw it come out the fuel filter, so the filter wasn’t clogged. I replaced all the fuel lines going in and out of the tank, and it started right up. Gennigray, getting back to your problem, I’d start at your fuel tank and follow the path of the fuel every single step of the way till it enters the engine.

Just remember this, If you run the saw out of gas then, you are also running it out of lubrication! Ken. I don’t think letting it run out gets every drop of fuel out of the carb and lines and that little bit left will turn to crud in a hurry. Up until my Stihl saws I’ve never run a saw with a visable gas tank that you could see the level in and we ran them out all the time, about every time actually, and no harm was ever done to the saw, they usually lose power just a moment before and then drop rpms and quit so if its harmfull to do that we would have killed many thousands of saws over the years, now with the stihls, you can see the level of gas in the tank and its no big deal and you can quit before it runs out and that makes for starting easier as well.

To me , common sence dictates that a saw be allowed to cool down a bit before shutting it down, same as a brief warm up. To my amazment everytime I cut wood with someone esle I get that “What the — are you doing” look when I start my saw and put it down to warm up. I set my carbs by torque in the cut, not RPMs. Of course warm ups, cool downs, and setting the carb in the cut is not by the book,, but then,, neither are zero engine problems, lucky me I guess.

Is it good to run a chainsaw out of gas?

To store your chainsaw, do not run it out of gas for the winter. This allows the interior seals to dry (and possibly crack) and that is very bad for your saw.

Many people wonder if a flooded chainsaw will fix itself? The answer is yes, but not always. By letting the chainsaw sit for about 20 minutes it will allow some of the fuel inside the engine to evaporate.

Why is my STIHL chainsaw not starting?

Dirty or clogged fuel tanks, dirty fuel filters and lines, loose fuel hoses, dirty air filters and a dirty carburetor can all restrict fuel flow. Check, clean and replace all the fuel system parts before moving into the internal engine, as gas problems create a majority of starting problems.

How long can a chainsaw run on a tank of gas?

What is the runtime of a Chainsaw? Depending on the type and usage, you can expect a gas Chainsaw to run between 15 and 40 min before you have to fill it up again. Most battery-powered chainsaws have a run time of up to 2 hours, but there are high-capacity power packs that will last much longer.

Do you mix gas and oil for chainsaw?

How do you start a flooded engine carburetor?

For flooded carburetored engines, a standard remedy is to crank the engine with the throttle fully open while holding the pedal firmly open to maximize air flow and eliminate all of the excessively rich fuel.

What causes a chainsaw to flood?

There could be various causes: incorrect fuel mixture, carburation not calibrated properly, or a wet spark plug. In spite of their power and robustness, chainsaws are actually rather delicate machines that require careful and precise maintenance at every stage of their life cycle.

How does Stihl easy start?

Compared with conventional starters, the STIHL Easy2Startâ„¢ not only requires less effort, but also allows the starter rope to be pulled approximately two-thirds slower. The even pull on the starter rope overcomes the engine’s compression to minimize the strength and effort required to start.

Should I run my chainsaw dry?

Should I run my chainsaw dry? Never run your chainsaw dry, instead use a quality gas stabilizer. A stabilizer will keep fuel fresh and protect a chainsaw fuel system from damage caused by stale gas.
